Bulimba Hash · club guide

Your first hash

First timer? Fresh meat! In the affectionate, “we’ll help you find your way back” sense. Come for a trail, stay for the ridiculous stories. You don’t need a hash name, a personal best or matching Lycra.

Before you rock up

Check the hareline for the real meeting point, start time, hash cash and what to bring. Wear shoes you can get dirty, pack water and bring a torch when the run calls for one. Tell the hare you’re new so you get the chalk talk.

What actually happens?

A hare sets a marked trail; the pack works it out together. Walk, jog or run at a pace that suits you. Listen to the briefing, stick with someone who knows the ropes and call out when you find the trail.

And the rude names?

Hash names have stories. Some of those stories even contain a grain of truth. No need to invent one before your first run; your human name will do nicely.

Do I have to drink?

No. Beer, soft drink, water: your call. The point is good company. Banter should make people laugh, not make them feel cornered. If something’s off, have a word with the committee.
